UPDATED 6/1:
In my lifetime I have witnessed the LA Riots 1992, Ferguson 2014, Baltimore 2015. People express their anger towards police in the streets and demand justice. Money is thrown into organizations tapped to come up with a solution. Millions of dollars and hundreds of round table discussions and yet here we are now 2020 and the biggest rioting of all is taking place in cities across the country. People are deeply angered by their personal experience or things they see police do on the news. Police are angered by how the news only shows part of the whole story. I am angered that I have been trying to solve this issue not just when it is the top news story but in between major events.
Written 2016:
It is my belief that the divide between police and the communities they serve is only going to continue to grow if we do not find a way for each side to be able to have some understanding of the other perspective. This divide will result in more escalated tension. While I am fully aware there may never be a kindred kinship we can find more mutual respect then we see today a little at a time.
What separates this documentary from others is it will not just follow cops around on duty. We will not break down policy and procedure. We will challenge perspectives and step into each others shoes. We will show through the magic of film how we can be too close to something or too far from it to see it clearly.
